After a somewhat long week, I am so happy that it is finally Friday and my working week is over. Not just because it means I get two days off work (and let’s face it who doesn’t like that!) but because for the first time ever, Newcastle are hosting their first ever Writer’s Festival this weekend. Officially it kicked off tonight with a cocktail party, but for me the fun and games really start tomorrow! What I particularly love about this festival is that its so open minded in terms of genre, subjects covered and authors attending that there is literally something for everyone!
Over the course of the weekend I plan to attend a number of sessions including “Getting To Know You” , “Crossing Over” and”The Heart of The Matter”, and lastly “A Fine Debut” on Sunday. I would have loved to have been able to attend “Killing Them Softly” on Sunday, the crime panel featuring local authors Wendy James and Jaye Ford and Caroline Overington (who I don’t think is a local, but is welcome all the same). Alas, I’ve got plans to see The Script in concert on Sunday night in Sydney and I have to leave during their panel, so I’ll be missing out on that this weekend. Don’t you hate how everything you look forward to always happens to land in the one busy weekend!? Oh well. Next time.
Are you planning to attend the Newcastle Writer’s Festival this weekend? If so, what are you looking forward to sitting in on?
If you are free and looking for something to do on the weekend, why not head on over to the Newcastle Writer’s Festival Website and check out some of the fantastic line up they have planned for the weekend.
