4/5 Stars

A deliciously fun rom com about a girl who has big dreams and just can’t stop herself from falling in love.

Shayna is this close to getting her dream job as a location manager for a new TV soap, she just needs to find the right house to film it in, and the job is hers.

Luckily, she’s found the perfect place. Unluckily, the owner – who is tall, dark and more handsome than is fair – is stubbornly refusing to let her use it unless she goes to dinner with him. No harm in that, right?

Lachlan swore he’d never go back into show business – not after his heart was broken – and the last thing he wants is a film crew traipsing through his house, but there’s something about Shayna that’s making it hard to say no . . .

He won’t let anyone near his heart, and she’s not looking for love – what could possibly go wrong?

Love on Location is a heartfelt novella about Shayna, a location scout for a Television mini-series who is on the hunt for the shows perfect house. As luck may have it, Shayna stumbles across the perfect place only to discover the house owner – Lachlan – is reluctant to allow the show to use it. In fact he says no out right. Lachlan was a child star and wants nothing to do with the world of TV, but when Shayna the beautiful enigma turns up on his doorstep unannounced he has trouble turning her way. In a last ditch attempt to keep her nearby, he agrees for the show to use his house for no other reason then to keep Shayna close, for the time being at least,

What ensues is a cute story about two characters who don’t believe in love after being burnt in the past. With their sexual chemistry undeniable to themselves and everyone around them, they come to a short term arrangement with no strings attached. But when things start to move too fast, and the lines between arrangement and relationship begin to blur, where do they draw the line? And when Lachlan begins to look at his life and everything Shayna has done to improve it in the short time that he’s known her, he knows he is in trouble.  Deep down he knows Shayna is special and that he needs to keep her around, but Shayna dreams big and she wants to work in the one industry that he cannot stand. Can he return to the life he left behind for the girl that could very well be the one? Is he willing to risk it all? Is Shayna able to love after the blows life has handed her time and time again?

Love on Location is a short and sweet romantic read, hitting all the right notes for a romance narrative. It’s cute, but not overly cliché – we know from the beginning the guy is going to get the girl. It’s quirky and most importantly, it’s real. The characters, the setting, the drama all feels relate-able and while the show and some of its characters might be over the top, its exactly what I picture something like Home & Away to be like (which is exactly what I thought of the entire time I read this) from the production side. What’s more the length of the narrative makes it that perfect romantic read to escape the everyday hustle and bustle of life while curling up on the couch this winter (or on the beach in summer if your lucky enough!).

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed this novella and look forward to reading more from the author in the future.
