5/5 Stars

Sexy bachelor and local sheriff, Jackson King would like to have a little more contact with the newest resident of his town, Patience, Texas—but dealing with her young ward’s shenanigans wasn’t exactly what he had in mind.
Stephanie Farrell is struggling this Christmas. As a new guardian to two young children she discovers that playing Mommy is a lot tougher than expected—and there’s certainly no room in her life for dating or relationships, no matter how smoking hot the temptation.
When Jackson is called to Stephanie’s address during a late night home invasion, his attempt to rescue her makes him a target. Now, he’ll risk his life to save the family who has stolen his heart.

Every year I tell myself I’m going to start reading Christmas books earlier so I can fit more in before the man in the big red suit comes. And every year I’m scrambling to find the time to read just about anything in the crazy season lead up, so you can imagine my surprise when I opened my emails and read the blog post from Aussie Author Shannon Curtis talking about Christmas and the act of giving this Christmas. The very same email that mentions she has a new Christmas novella out AND it’s free across all domains in order to say thanks to her readers. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m willing to pay money for anything Curtis releases, but seeing that it was a Christmas novella I quickly jumped on that bandwagon and can happily report that it was one of the best decisions I made today.

Mistletoe Maverick is a quick, but beautiful little Christmas novella about a new-mum Stephanie Farrell (and her two recent charges: Aiden [10] and Katie [8]) and the small town Sheriff, Jackson King. Set in Patience, Texas this is the perfect heart warming Christmas Novella to get you in the mood for the week ahead. What’s more, for all us Aussie’s currently sweating it out in a heatwave, the sleepy and gorgeous snow filled story is the perfect way to relax and cool down with  -well until Stephanie and Jackson get on the page anyway!

Local Sheriff, Jackson King is a ladies man and well known for his status as the county’s most eligible bachelor. Stephanie Farrell may have only been in town three months, but if there’s one thing she knows already, it’s that the Sheriff is most definitely a man she can never have. So imagine her surprise when the Sheriff brings Aiden home one day and the pair get talking over coffee and newly baked biscuits and sparks begin to fly.

Jackson King knows all about the beautiful Stephanie Farrell, and yet he can’t seem to find the time to talk to her one-on-one. After dropping home Aiden following his most recent misdemeanor, he can’t help but take up Stephanie’s offer for coffee. With more than just the coffee heating up the room, Jackson takes a stab and asks Stephanie out for dinner, and is surprised by her rejection.

Stephanie had said no.

But she’d wanted to say yes. He’s seen it in her eyes, sensed it in the way her body had leaned in toward him. He grinned. He could work with that.

Turned down, but not forgotten, Jackson is determined to show Stephanie that he can be the man she wants and needs and the late night 991 call might just be his chance to prove his worth to both Stephanie and the kids before its all too late…

In less than a hundred pages, Shannon Curtis has been able to establish two strong leading characters and create this perfect little romance that is sure to leave you with a smile on your face and a wistful look this holiday season.

I highly recommend this festive novella for anyone looking for a Christmas story that is both sweet, heart warming and full of good ‘old Christmas cheer, and yet fast paced, heated and with a bit of substance. If you are a fan or romantic suspense, then this is the Christmas novella you’ve been waiting for!
