Tribute To The Unsung Heroes: Librarians

I just want to take a moment to appreciate and share the love for some of the most unsung heroes in the book community: librarians.

Librarians are so often overlooked, under-appreciated and not recognised, that I want to take the time to say I see YOU and I THANK YOU for your service to the book world,Β  in every imaginable way.

Thank you for being the smiling gatekeepers handing out free keys to the magical world of books and reading. Thank you for being the unofficial holder of information and genius researchers; always willing to lend a helping hand even when you are asked the same question a thousand times a week.

Thank you for working endlessly behind the scenes in a million thankless tasks. Thank you for filling our reservations, and re-shelving our messes, so that the place always looks tidy and we can find what our hearts desire.Β  Thank you for ordering those much loved and anticipated books and for securing those missing back-lists so that we can finish the series we simply had to read.

Thank you for being our home away from home; for being our haven and shelter in the storms. Thank you for creating and nurturing the community spirit and bringing together like-minded people. For working odd hours and days and for always being there when we need another book.

Thank you for being our fearless book club leaders and good book connoisseurs. For always knowing the kinds of books we might like to read, and the cheerleaders for those titles we aren’t sure of but love unconditionally.

Thank you for hosting events for all ages, fostering the love of stories and community for the young and young-at-heart. For being more than a one-shop-book-stop, but for being techs genius and expert problem solvers you are day-in-and-day-out. Thank you for your help in regards to council matters.

Thank you for the hours of organisation and planning that goes into putting on our favourite author talks and books events. For bringing the authors to us, the readers; it’s something we can never repay you in kind for.

Thank you for your smiling encouragement, your energy and unwavering passion. It’s exciting and contagious and keeps bring us back each week.

We love the opportunities you give us all year long, so from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU.

This post was written in honour of one of my all-time favourite librarians Allison. We love you!

A fabulous dedication to all the librarian superheroes out there for everything they do. It’s wonderful to know you’re appreciated and people recognise the work we do. We are pretty awesome after all! πŸ’•πŸ“š
