After a messy breakup with a lying ex, English teacher Mercy Jones swore off men, especially the edgy ones. Safe, stable and comfy. Those are her catch words for a perfect partner. So why does the new substitute history teacher have to be dangerous, raw, and challenging—on every level? His uncompromising masculinity and questioning mind captivate Mercy, tempting her to risk her heart.

Detective Aidan Shaw is a cynical bastard, trusting nobody outside his family and fellow cops. But when working undercover to eradicate a high school drug network, Aidan meets an intelligent, feisty blonde with knock-out curves. Mercy’s warmth and generous spirit awaken a part of him buried deep for too long.

But how can Aidan remain undercover and not betray the woman he’s come to cherish? As he closes in on the criminals manipulating innocents for profit, the stakes grow ever higher—with deadly consequences.

I love Fiona Archer’s romantic suspense series. The Sons of Sydney boys are must-reads books, and this spin-off from the series is everything I could have asked for.

For anyone who has read the Sons of Sydney series, Aidan Shaw is one of London Shaw’s overprotective brothers (the heroine from Tempting Justice). So while we’ve meet Aidan in passing before, nothing could prepare me for how amazing his book was going to be when Fiona Archer dropped his story somewhat unexpectedly on us back in 2017.

In His Custody is a sizzling, action-packed romantic suspense undercover-cop romance that is going to leave you swooning. Yep, you read that right, there is so much happening in this novel, but that just means that there is bound to be something for every romance lover out there. While there is a lot going on, the sexy times are a little bit kinky and certainly sizzling with sexual chemistry, the romance between high-school teacher Mercy and undercover-cop Aidan feels honest and real. It’s authentic. Which makes the fact that you know Aidan is undercover and therefore lying to Mercy all that more anxiety-inducing as the story progresses.

All in all, if you are looking for an action-packed, romantic suspense narrative, then I highly suggest this one. You won’t regret it!

Top Ten Books of 2020 So Far …

Today I thought it might be fun to share with you some of the books I have been loving this year so far.

Originally, my intention for this list would be something to look back on in December as I compiled my reading stats and favourite lists for the year. I thought it would be interesting to see which books went the long haul and stayed in the top ten to the very end of the year. However, shortly after sitting down to generate this list, I discovered the list was nothing like I thought it would be and I kind of surprised myself … in the best way possible.

So without further ado, here is my top ten books of 2020 so far: Continue reading

When I saw this book go up for pre-order back in May I totally did a happy dance and pre-ordered this book quick smart. I absolutely adored Pestilence (book one) and really enjoyed War (book two), so to say I’ve been waiting patiently for this book is a total understatement!

Bring on September; I know what I’ll be reading! Continue reading

ASHTON BARCLAY, or as I like to call him, Mr. B. for Bossy, is fast becoming the bane of my existence.

After running into him, literally, he’s now popping up everywhere, and somehow managing to weave his way into my life.

He’s egotistical, smug, and so ridiculously good-looking it should be illegal—he’s way too hot to handle. I don’t do hot, those type of guys are more trouble than they’re worth.

Although, I’d secretly love to do him.

We’ve kissed once—it was smokin’, and led to me dry humping his leg in front of the entire club like a shameless hussy. Oh, and did I mention I deep throated his thumb within seconds of meeting him? I didn’t even know his name yet.

I have issues, big ones.

He makes me do things I never imagined myself doing.

He makes me feel things I’m not comfortable feeling.

It just wouldn’t work, even if I wanted it to. Between us we have more baggage than a carousel at LAX airport.

He’s everything I want, but can never have.

Or so I thought.

Bossy Bastard is one hell of addictive, page-turning, feel-good, alpha-loving, romance by best selling author J.L. Perry. If that didn’t give it away, I loved this book, and highly recommend it to everyone looking for a feel-good romance. Continue reading

Emelina Flores has nothing. Her home in Ruina has been ravaged by war; her parents were killed and her sister was kidnapped. Even though Em is only a useless Ruined – completely lacking any magic – she is determined to get revenge.

Her plan is simple: She will infiltrate the enemy’s kingdom, posing as the crown prince’s betrothed. She will lead an ambush. She will kill the king and everyone he holds dear, including his son.

The closer Em gets to the prince, though, the more she questions her mission. Her rage-filled heart begins to soften. But with her life – and her family – on the line, love could be Em’s deadliest mistake.

Waiting On Wednesday: ‘From Hope Lake’ by Nina Bocci (Hopeless Romantics book four)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted at Breaking the Spine. The purpose is to spotlight upcoming releases that we are excited for.

Published by: Gallery Books

Expected Publication: 29th June 2020

In this prequel to the Hopeless Romantics series by the USA TODAY bestselling author of On the Corner of Love and Hate, four old friends return home after college and rebuild their relationships with each other as adults.

Cooper, Emmanuelle, Henry, and Nick used to be inseparable. They grew up together, went to school together, and shared all of their major milestones together. But they’ve grown apart over the years, so when they all return to their small hometown as adults, it’s incredibly awkward between them.

Emmanuelle starts working in the city planning office, finally becoming part of her father’s professional world. Henry is as perfect as ever, teaching English at the local high school and quickly becoming a favorite of the town. Nick, who has recently joined his father’s landscaping business, is still as wild and unpredictable as ever. And Cooper, who is looking for direction in his life, gets a job working in the planning office with Emmanuelle.

When the four come together to help plan the town’s annual Fourth of July Festival, the result is anyone’s guess. As the group learns to reconcile the past and to accept each other for who they are now, they must learn to focus on the future and let go of what’s holding them back.

From the co-author of the “comedic and deliciously whimsical” (Christina Lauren) Roman Crazy comes a story of second chances, friendship, and new beginnings.
